Mr. David Lyon, MBChB, FRACS
Orthopaedic Surgeon
David is a New Zealand trained Orthopaedic Surgeon graduating from Otago Medical School in 1978 and completing orthopaedic training in 1988.
After two years of further experience in the UK including joint replacement and spinal surgery, he returned to New Zealand in 1990 as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Whangarei Hospital and also private practice at Northland Orthopaedic Centre and Kensington Hospital.
His main areas of interest are hip and knee joint replacement including revision hip and knee surgery and partial replacements, having performed over 2000 procedures. Current practice includes use of patient specific instruments for knee joint replacement based on patient MRI scans to improve accuracy of surgery and patient outcomes.
Other procedures include knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction, carpal tunnel decompression and surgery for Dupuytren’s contracture in the hand, rotator cuff surgery of the shoulder and lumbar spine decompression and disc surgery.
David also has an interest in medico legal assessment and is a past executive member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, past chairman of Kensington Hospital Board of Directors and previous clinical director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Whangarei Hospital.
David is a member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, NZ Knee and Sports Society, Australian Spine Society and North American Spine Society. |
